What paw licking actually means
Most owners see their dog licking their paws and think he is just cleaning himself. Or maybe it is a little itch.
It is neither.
Here is what is actually happening. Deep inside his joints there is a natural oil that keeps everything moving with a smooth, easy slip. As dogs age, that oil starts to dry up. And when it does, the cushion inside the joint starts rubbing where it used to glide. He feels it on every step: a dull ache he cannot point to and cannot tell you about. So he does the only soothing thing he knows. He licks.
And here is the part that broke my heart when I learned it. Your dog hides the pain from you on purpose. All he wants is to keep you happy. So he greets you at the door, wags his tail, and masks it. Because to him, you come first.

Where it goes if you ignore it

Why most joint chews fail
Here is where I wasted hundreds of pounds, so you do not have to.
Most hip and joint chews on the supermarket shelf are full of cheap fillers, with barely enough of the real ingredients inside to do anything. The label says glucosamine. The dose says otherwise.
And even the better ones stop at the same old 4. Green lipped mussel and hyaluronic acid are expensive, so they get left out, and those are the two doing the heaviest lifting.
